substitute for beer in a recipe?

Javier Holsonback: I'm guessing that you are worried about the alcohol in the beer. If you are, it will all cook off when you deep fry the shrimp, so no worries there. You can also use a NA (non-alcohol) beer if you are really worried. The beer will impart a little flavor based on what kind of beer you use and my guess is that if you used a real light beer like Bud Light, you won't even notice the difference between that and water. For some recipes like a beef vegetable soup, I toss in a bottle of a stronger tasting beer like Guinness or Sam Adams and that seems to add a little flavor....Show more

Ira Porietis: You can use water. It will work just fine.

Arlen Lopiccalo: the beer taste will be gone when you eat it, it merely helps to cook the shrimp and keep it moist. The rule is anytime you use beer to cook use the cheapest available. And don't use and ale or a flavored beer ever- you will be able to taste it!

Norma Marsalis: 1

Cherlyn Tefera:! pop : )

Jacques Vaquera: There is no substitute for beer.

Anton Waln: The best substitute I've found so far for a beer recipe substitute is Sprite. It keeps the carbonation which many of these recipes need without the yeasty beer flavor.

Shawnna Kusky: Looking at the recipe I wonder if buttermilk would be a good choice. It may change the consistency of the batter, but I bet it would be good.

Ira Porietis: Firstly , what is the recipe, is it something that requires fermented fluid, if it is try ginger beer, this is non alcoholic, if it is just something that is aerated you need, try a soft drink.Another option is a small amount of vinegar, as it has a lot of similar properties
