Traditional and non-traditional animation?

Stan Conley: Traditional animation uses pencil-drawn artwork (like a flip book) where each scene is hand-sketched by the artist. This follows ink & scan, all of which is done one frame at a time.Non-traditional animation uses computers & software where images might be drawn directly on screen, or modeled, textured & animated in full 3D.Obviously, CG animation is faster and more fluid, but many studios still use elements of traditional animation at the storyboard phase....Show more

Patricia Dornbos: Well, traditional animation is the old ink-and-paint club. Some would argue that stop motion is not "true" animation or non-traditional, as is computer generated and that is the only difference
