Question about buying a new television?

Corrinne Ruozzo: We have had a analog signal all this time. That is going to change to digital signal and the analog signal is going to stop. So you will have a choice. If you keep your present TV that is a analog TV you will have to purchase a converter box ,that will convert the new digital signal and down grade it to a back to a analog signal. That will give you the same quality that we have now. They have TVs with the converter box built in. They are called SDTV(Standard Definition Television). Now you can get a HDTV(High definition Television) which will enhance your picture 5 times more then SDTV. If you don't care about picture quality go with SDTV. If you get HDTV you will have to get a HD receiver through your cable or satellite company or local retailer. You can buy a HDTV with a digital tuner built in but that only picks up signals through antennas. If you go through your cable or satellite company they will also charge for HDTV programing. Good luck....S! how more

Arnulfo Seegars: Well, I heard the same thing and I guess it's true. I would go for the HDTV to be safe. I know its more money but it'll be worth it in the long run.

Coleman Deliberato: You can buy reasonably priced HDTVs that you will enjoy more than a standard analog set. You may need to buy a set top box converter in 3-4 years to watch on an analog set.Search on AVS forums.

Emerita Sciandra: consult an expert

Byron Fortmann: There should be some good priced HDTVs out there. The downside of getting a cheaper HDTV is that there are less features like less plug jacks or a smaller screen size. But really think why you should get a new TV.First of all many channels still use the standards,if you listen carefully during some intro of TV shows or movies it explains"High definition wherever available".

Cornelius Thornborrow: ALL YOU NEED TO WATCH THE MANDATED DIGITAL TV IN 2009 IS A DIGITAL SET TOP BOX. IF YOU HAVE CABLE, YOU MORE THAN LIKEL! Y ALREADY HAVE ONE...DON'T WORRY.

Robin Marchione: don't! worry you have plenty of time until you have to switch. 5 years +
