Is Alchemy Also A Philosophy?

Jerrod Guilfoil: I feel like actual alchemy (I never read that book but have heard good things about it) is more about business then philosophy. A lot of alchemists were looking to make an 'elixir of life' or turn ordinary earth into gold. They really just wanted to be immortal, rich, and famous. Now I'm sure there must have been some that undertook it in more a philosophic way, but in general it was probably just greed. A get rich quick scheme.

Keven Woodington: The original idea of Alchemy was the gradual perfection of the soul and this was symbolized by steps in a pseudo-chemical process. Therefore, yes, it could be considered a philosophy. It would NOT be a philosophy in the sense of a set of logical arguments designed to defend a certain position as is usually the case in Western philosophy since it encompasses experience as well as intellect.

Clifford Gombos: merely as an addition to what the others suggested, there is the fashion of alchemy, thats refe! rred to as Daoist Alchemy, which has been practiced and progressed by the followers of the Dao in China. It believes that diverse factors exterior besides by way of fact the interior could be transmutated to type an Elixir, which in turn can convey Immortality, or the merely right objective. Such healing arts as Chi Gong, Tai Ji, and so on. prepare alchemy by way of fact the top-rated source of gasoline....Show more

Sol Allphin: i read part of the same book ,no, it is not actually a philosophy

Cody Shimko: Alchemy was originally the pursuit of the means by which to change one metal into another, i.e., iron into gold, and only the modern distortions of the tales of the same have recently produced the "Harry Potter" versions of the same that now seem popular , i.e., looking for the elixir of life and the sorcerer's stone, etc.namaste...Show more

An Trebil: Back when alchemy (transmutation of one substance into another by means of pseudo-magical rituals and b! adly misunderstood chemistry) was considered a serious enterpr! ise, 'science' was referred to as "natural philosophy". The really early, pre-Socratic philosophers, almost all conducted some kind of primitive scientific experiments. There wasn't such a line between philosophy and science back then (perhaps, if I'm biased, because scientists thought more about the underlying principles of what they were doing). Calling alchemy a branch of philosophy is probably a literary device that trades on this early definition....Show more

Clinton Quant: physically, no.yet i have seen a few diamondscome out of the rubble of this life.so mentally, yes.

Forest Duttinger: If it was a philosophy would it work, but Alchemy is a chemistry and therefore has rules. Logically alchemy works, Au is a compound, the result of a chemical reaction that takes hundreds of years to happen an if rushed the result is iron pyrites which is found on stones on the beach.

Monty Sieloff: No!

Spencer Heidtbrink: Hi,Philosophy is the study of general ! and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, truth, beauty, law, justice, validity, mind and language. Alchemy is both a philosophy and a practice with an aim of achieving ultimate wisdom as well as immortality, involving the improvement of the alchemist as well as the making of several substances described as possessing unusual properties. The alchemist's message is that while in search of material things, one may learn something about oneself. Anything can be turned into a philosophy when the issue is relating to solving it through the use of thought and feelings....Show more

Derick Kinnard: No. It is a pseudoscience.
