Analyzing the works but not the author?

Asley Quickle: The only possible benefit that I could see from analyzing a complete set of works would be to evaluate the author's progression. Like any other people, authors grow and change as a result of life experience and this would be more than probably be reflected in their work.

Sammie Bocanegra: Well, you might be looking at things like how a work reflects the time it was written in. At that point comparing it to the author's other works is a sensible thing to do, because they were written in the same time by the same person, so you'd expect their reflections of the time they were written in to be similar. If they're not similar, then that's probably not what you're seeing in the work.

Russ Kiernan: you must do both.you look at the particular book, and then deepen your analysis by reference to her other publications, surely?
